Donegal 1-16 Leitrim 1-14:Donegal were given the fright of their lives by a brave Leitrim side in Carrick-on-Shannon on Saturday, but points by subs Stephen McDermott and Eamon McGee secured victory for Brian McIvor's side deep into extra time.

Donegal appeared to be on their way to victory after a 69th-minute Michael Murphy point put them a goal up. But Leitrim forced extra time in the 77th minute when sub James Glancy hammered past goalkeeper Paul Durkin.

Leitrim opened impressively with Ciarán Duignan and Fintan McBrien hitting over points from play in the opening minutes. Michael Hegarty opened Donegal's account when he shot over shortly after and five minutes later Ciarán Duignan and Hegarty swapped points. Ciarán Duignan added two further points while Declan Maxwell also added a point.

Donegal's Paul Durcan made a fine penalty save from Michael Foley and they grabbed a 1-5 to 0-6 lead after an unmarked Michael Murphy fired to the net while Kevin McMenamin hit over two points and Brendan Devenney shot a point.

The Donegal men led by 1-8 to 0-8 at the 50th minute mark after McMenamin put over two points and Ryan Bradley added a point while Leitrim stayed in touch with points from Ciarán Duignan and Dermot Reynolds.

With the final whistle approaching Leitrim trailed by a goal after James Glancy shot two points and Michael Duignan converted a 45. But then Glancy's dramatic goal sent the tie to extra time. Donegal pulled three points clear in the first period after Rory Kavanagh hit the target twice and sub Christy Toye added a point.

Two Ciarán Duignan points in opening two minutes of the final extra time period left Donegal with a minimum margin lead, but victory was secured with points from Stephen McDermott and Eamon McGee while Leitrim responded with a Michael Duignan point.
