Limerick IT 0-11 Mary Immacualte 1-6FITZGIBBON CUP/Quarter-final: Limerick Institute of Technology booked their place in this year's Fitzgibbon Cup semi-final - and a clash with Waterford IT - after a late flourish ensured victory over Mary Immaculate College at Puckane yesterday.

MIC started well with a point after only 50 seconds and a goal in the 12th minute, which came indirectly from a penalty. Eoin Vaughan, who was dragged to the ground, saw his spot kick well saved by goalkeeper Nigel Murray but the rebound was flashed to the net by corner forward Pat Furlong.

Mick Coughlan pulled a point back for LIT before Eamonn Cregan's side hit a purple patch with points from David O'Dwyer and Joe Leary to see MIC lead by 1-5 to 0-4 at the interval.

However, LIT had reduced the lead to a point by the 36th minute thanks to points from Barry Nugent, Gearoid Considine and Eoin Kelly. LIT kept up the pressure and MIC inevitably relinquished their lead in the 40th minute after Tipperary intercounty star Eoin Kelly found his range from a tight angle.

A John Anderson point revived MIC but LIT pulled clear at the end with two points from Eoin Kelly. They survived a late scare when MIC substitute Brendan Dagg found himself in front of goal with only Murray to beat but his shot was smothered.
