Jones loses Ryder blues

Steve Jones, disappointed after failing to make the American team for this month's Ryder Cup, won the $1

Steve Jones, disappointed after failing to make the American team for this month's Ryder Cup, won the $1.5 million Bell Canadian Open yesterday. Despite a final-hole bogey, Jones eked out a one-stroke victory over Greg Norman, who also bogeyed the difficult par-four 18th at Royal Montreal.

"It's been a long five months. My goal was to make the Ryder Cup team. I didn't do it and it was tough because I felt I had the game to do it," Jones said after a closing one-under-par 69.

Last year's US Open champion finished at five-under 275, while Norman (69) was second on 276, with New Zealand's Phil Tataurangi (69) another shot behind.

Jones collected $270,000 for his seventh PGA Tour victory, his second this year, and his second at the Canadian Open.
