Two Irish drivers, Peter Walsh (20) of Cork and Philip Kehoe (24) of New Ross, Co Wexford, will compete in Formula 2000 in the US next year. Walsh won the Benelux Formula Ford Zetec Championship this year and will test next week with the Primus Team. Kehoe, second in the Formula Europa Irish series has already tested in the US.
The Rallies Committee of Motorsport Ireland have announced a new National Rally Championship for the next five years. Beginning in 2000, the number of rounds will be cut from 14 to 10 (best 8 scores count). The mandatory limit is being raised. The series starts with the Mayo Stages on March 12th, and will include: March 26th, Galway; April 9th, Kerry; May 7th, Carlow; May 28th, Cavan; June 4th, Limerick; July 9th, Connacht; August 13th, Tipperary; September 3rd, Clare; October 29th, Skibbereen.
Toshiba Rally Championship dates: April 28th/30th, Killarney Lakes; June 16th/18th, Donegal; July 22th/23rd, West 2000 (Galway); September 7th/8th, Manx; October 6th/7th, Cork 20th.
