When Tom Gillis won the Jamaican Open in 1994, the weather was sultry and there wasn't a breath of wind. Yesterday, the 30-year-old from Michigan made his debut appearance in the British Open and probably wished afterwards that he hadn't survived the qualifying phase. One triple bogey, five double bogeys, six bogeys and six pars on his card meant that the American signed for a round of 90.
