GAELIC GAMES:MAYO manager James Horan has been named as the Philips Sports Manager of the month for July. Having earlier in the month steered his team to victory over Roscommon to clinch the Connacht title, Horan's Mayo side went on to record the shock defeat of the reigning All-Ireland champions Cork in the All-Ireland quarter-final in Croke Park.

The last time Mayo defeated Cork in the championship was as far back as 1916. Horan credited his team’s workrate and discipline as central to the victory, with the champions being confined to scoring only a single point in the second half.
