AJAX Amsterdam's team doctor, Piet Bon, has said that he knew nothing of the heart condition which is likely to rule out Nigerian international Nwankwo Kanu playing for his new club Inter Milan.

The 20 year old was found by the Inter doctor to have a problem with the valve in his aorta shortly after his transfer from Ajax.

Dr Bon said he "never noticed a cardiac problem," during medical examinations of Kanu. He said it was possible for the malformation to rest hidden for years before "suddenly resurfacing or becoming aggravated by a bacterial infection".

Kanu recently suffered from a bout of bronchitis.

Despite transferring their medical dossier to Inter Milan, Ajax officials are refusing to comment on the case, saying that the privacy of the player needs to be respected.
