HOCKEY: Lynsey McVicker marked her 99th Irish appearance with a hat-trick in a 9-0 trouncing of Mexico in the opening game of the International Atlantic Cup in Virginia yesterday, reports Mary Hannigan.
Jenny Burke and Arlene Boyles got two goals apiece with Claire McMahon and Daphne Sixsmith completing the scoring.
Jill Orbinson, at centre midfield, proved to be the bane of the inexperienced Mexicans' afternoon, creating the bulk of the scoring opportunities for her forwards. Coach Riet Kuper will expect a considerably more testing 70 minutes against Scotland today, before taking on the United States tomorrow afternoon.

SAILING: GBR Challenge, Britain's first America's Cup challengers in 15 years, have sacked helmsman Andy Green after a series of disappointing starts.
"Andy Green is a very valued member of the team but our last few race starts have been disappointing and the team thought it was time to make a change," GBR Challenge spokeswoman Vicky Low told reporters.
GBR Challenge, backed by computer networking entrepreneur Peter Harrison, are in seventh place among the nine syndicates in round robin one of the Louis Vuitton Cup for challengers.
However, in London, GBR Challenge denied Green had been dismissed. "GBR Challenge has always stated that it has a squad of 32 sailors and that there is no A and B team," a spokeswoman said. "Andy Green has (been), and continues to be, a member of this squad which works on a rotational basis."
FORMULA ONE: Formula One team owner Frank Williams hopes to forge closer links with engine suppliers BMW and even wants the German manufacturer to buy into his outfit.
Williams wants more technical input from BMW, who have provided the engines for his team for the past two years.
Williams is keen to extend a deal which runs out at the end of next year as his team have emerged as the closest challengers to Ferrari.
