We’ll have to wait until Thursday evening to see Rory McIlroy’s USPGA championship defence get underway - with the World No1 teeing off from the first hole at the later time of 7.20pm (1.20pm local time) for the tournament’s opening round.

McIlroy, who has this week declared himself “100 per cent” fit for purpose after missing the defence of his Open championship and last week’s WGC-Bridgestone Invitational with an ankle injury, will play the first two rounds alongside Jordan Spieth and Zach Johnson.

The young pretender to his World No1 crown and the man who took ownership of the Claret Jug last month in his absence.

Darren Clarke is the first of the Irish to get underway on Thursday, an hour earlier than McIlroy. While Shane Lowry will tee of at 6.40pm along with American Webb Simpson, and Austrian Bernd Wiesberger, as he looks to build on the momentum of his victory in Ohio last week.
