Graeme McDowell kept himself in sight of top spot after the third round of The RSM Classic at Sea Island in Georgia as he looks to secure back-to-back PGA Tour titles.

The 36-year-old carded five birdies in a bogey-free 65 to move to 12 under, four shots behind leader Kevin Kisner, who closed with three straight birdies to card a six-under 64 to move to 16 under.

McDowell’s day got off to a bad start after he was penalised one shot on the first fairway after he believed that placing was still in action after it had been used in the opening two rounds.

He recovered brilliantly by hitting his approach to inside 10 feet and making the par, even with the penalty shot.

Overnight leader Kevin Chappell carded a two-under 68 to move to 13 under, one ahead of McDowell, who is in third place on his own.

Germany's Alex Cejka is fourth after a third straight 67 left him on 11 under.

McDowell is looking to claim his second win in a week after securing the OHL Classic in Mexico last Monday after a playoff.
