Galway go top after 2-0 win

GALWAY United beat Waterford United 2-0 at Terryland Park on Saturday night to go top of the Shield Southern Section

GALWAY United beat Waterford United 2-0 at Terryland Park on Saturday night to go top of the Shield Southern Section. Fergal Coleman put Galway in front after 24 minutes when he reacted well to beat Tony Hall to the loose ball after Conor Killeen's shot from the edge of the area had been parried by Waterford goalkeeper John Grace.

The Killeen brothers then combined for Galway's second goal nine minutes from time when Ronan's corner was flicked on at the near post by veteran Martin Lawlor for Conor to head in from just yards out.

Antonio Izzi scored twice as Limerick won their first game of the season at Rathbane when coming from behind to beat Cobh Ramblers. Cobh were the better side in the first half but didn't get their reward until six minutes after the break when Willie O'Keeffe punished hesitancy in the Limerick defence to score from close range.

Izzi equalised from a 66th minute penalty after a foul on Howard King, and then got his reward for an outstanding display with the winner following a corner three minutes later.
