Limerick accept defeat after Hawk-Eye appeal rejected

The Limerick county board has accepted that their minor hurlers will play no further part in this year’s championship after losing their appeal to the Disputes Resolution Authority.

Limerick had objected to the result of their semi-final defeat to Galway after the Hawk-Eye score detection system incorrectly ruled one of their points a ‘miss’ early in the contest.

The match finished level after normal time with Galway going on to reach the final after extra-time, winning by a single point.

Limerick had argued they should be awarded the victory and progress to the All-Ireland final against Waterford this Sunday. The county’s case had already been refused by the Central Competitions Control Committee and the Central Appeals Committee and after last night’s appeal was rejected the county said it is now the end of the matter.

In a statement released of the county website, the board said: “Last Monday evening in Tullamore the DRA went against the Limerick county board appeal for the Limerick minor hurling case for the right to be still involved in the All-Ireland Minor hurling championship. After a five hour meeting Limerick were unsuccessful which means the Limerick county board have now reached the end of the case.”
