Republic of Ireland international Keith Fahey has been given extended compassionate leave by Birmingham City.

The midfielder will remain in his native Dublin for an indefinite period, the English Championship club confirmed yesterday.

The 29-year-old withdrew from the Republic of Ireland squad to face Greece at the Aviva stadium on Wednesday, and City confirmed on their Twitter feed he had returned to Ireland.
