Munster SH Cup/Waterford 2-14 LIT 1-16:A late late point in extra time from Conor Carey saw Waterford defeat the Limerick college in the quarter-final of the Munster Senior Hurling competition at Dungarvan yesterday.

Played in atrocious conditions not conducive to good hurling, the home side looked to have secured victory in normal time when they held a three-point advantage three minutes into injury time.

Limerick IT were awarded a 35 metre free and Iarlaith Tannain's effort went all the way to the net to force extra time.

The home side held a slender lead at half-time in relegation time 0-5 to 0-4 having played with the elements.

Goals from a Ken McGrath penalty on the three-quarter hour mark and one from Eoin Kelly in the 51st minute gave Waterford a 2-9 to 0-7 lead.

The Limerick side's cause was not helped by the sending off of full-back Jackie Tyrrell for a second yellow card offence which resulted in the penalty.

Limerick IT, aided by the elements, battled back scoring 1-5 without reply in the closing 10 minutes to send the game to extra time.

The sides were still deadlocked at the interval before Limerick IT took a two-points lead but it was Waterford who finished the stronger with points from John Hartley, Kelly and Carey to set up a meeting with Cork in next Sunday's semi-final.
