London 1-10 Carlow 0-12 London's trip to Dr Cullen Park, Carlow, yesterday proved a rewarding one as the exiles recorded their first league points at the expense of the Barrowsiders.
London got off to a great start by virtue of a fourth minute goal from right-corner forward Paddy Lynott. Significantly, that goal came when the visitors were playing into the strong wind and provided them with the belief that this could be their day.
Despite the accuracy of wing forwards Brian Carbery and Mark Carpenter and the advantage of playing with the wind, Carlow only led by 0-9 to 1-4 at half-time.
An inspirational point from play by London's left-corner back Sean Murphy in the 47th minute tied the game at 1-7 to 0-10 and the sides exchanged scores to remain deadlocked with five minutes of normal time remaining.
Then upped popped Lynott to score the winning point from play, just as he had opened the scoring for his side with that goal.
Despite frantic late pressure from Carlow, London held on with grim determination to claim both points.
