Pat Eddery was banned for five days at Ripon yesterday after dropping his hands on the hot favourite Jazz Track and finishing only third in the Grassington Maiden Stakes. Eddery set the pace on the market leader but was headed over a furlong out by Tycooness who got on top inside the final furlong. Eddery took things easy on the favourite in the last 50 yards and was caught and beaten a head for second place.
He was found guilty of not riding out for the best possible placing at the subsequent stewards inquiry and was banned for September 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th and 8th. It means that he will miss a two-day fixture at York and the Haydock Park Sprint fixture.
Frankie Dettori will not appeal against the five-day ban he received at Goodwood on Saturday. Dettori received his suspension after being adjudged guilty of irresponsible riding on the John Gosden-trained Cape Cross, who was disqualified from first place in the Tripleprint Celebration Mile.
The jockey was also disqualified from first place aboard Swiss Law in the Crowson Handicap. After Dettori's near 8 to 1 treble at Chepstow yesterday, the Tote reacted by slashing his price for the Jockeys' Championship from 4 to 7 to 1 to 4.
Kieren Fallon, who notched up only one victory at Newcastle, was moved out from 5 to 4 to 5 to 2 with Eddery lengthened from 16 to 1 to 33 to 1.
Meanwhile, Dance Design will reappear in the Digifone Irish Champion Stakes at Leopardstown on September 9th after her gallant third in the Grade 1 Beverly D Stakes in Arlington, Chicago on Sunday.
Dance Design's stable companion Casey Tibbs ran the race of his life to finish second in the Grade 1 Secretariat Stakes.
