Unseeded Australian Scott Draper has set his sights on breaking his Wimbledon duck after winning his first ATP Tour title at the Stella Artois championships.
Draper, ranked 108th before the match, defeated qualifier Laurence Tieleman, himself the world number 253, 7-6 (7-5) 6-4 in 71 minutes in an unlikely final line-up at Queen's Club after the early exits of Pete Sampras, Tim Henman and Greg Rusedski.
Before this week, the 24-year-old left-hander had won only four matches all due to poor form and a recurring knee injury, and he even considered not taking part at Queen's after a disappointing second round exit at the French Open.
But Draper resolved to play his way out of his slump and beat US Open champion Patrick Rafter in the second round before going on to defeat another fellow Australian, Mark Woodforde, in the semi-finals.
Against Tieleman, he won the first set in a close tie-break before breaking the Italian's serve in the first game of the second set. He did and going on to clinch victory in style with an ace after not conceding a single break point all match.
Now he is finally confident of winning his first match at Wimbledon, having gone out of the tournament in the first round on each of his three previous visits, even letting a two-set advantage slip on two of those occasions.
