BREEDERS' CUP: Frankie Dettori is likely to choose Echo Of Light over Librettist in the Breeders' Cup Mile at Churchill Downs next Saturday.
The Italian admitted yesterday he was leaning towards the improving four-year-old, who won a Group Two at Longchamp on his latest start from the Godolphin pair. Dettori said: "I have not made a final decision but I'm leaning towards Echo Of Light. He is still a bit babyish, but he is maturing all the time. I think going left-handed will suit him."
Echo Of Light is due to gallop this morning, while dual Group One winner Librettist has successfully come through his final piece of work before heading out to America.
Trainer Saeed bin Suroor said: "Librettist worked over seven furlongs with Frankie Dettori on Racecourse Side. It was routine exercise and he went nicely."
Christophe Soumillon is on standby to partner Librettist
WEATHER UPDATE: This weekend's fixtures at Wexford got the green light yesterday afternoon after the track passed an inspection. There had been concern about the weather forecast but a welcome dry afternoon has left the course ready for action, writes Brian O'Connor.
"No further inspections are planned," confirmed the Turf Club spokesman Cliff Noone. "The have had to move a few railing for safety purposes and to keep things in order."
Wexford race both today and tomorrow. The ground is heavy.
Ayr officials are hopeful today's meeting will go ahead despite announcing a further precautionary inspection at 7.15 this morning. The Scottish venue passed an inspection at 4pm yesterday but further showers are possible and the going is currently heavy. "We're fine at the moment but we are going to have another precautionary inspection at 7.15 tomorrow morning, depending on what rain we get tonight," said clerk of the course Katherine Self.
