Shelbourne 0 Crumlin Utd 1:MARTIN CRAMER was the toast of Crumlin last night as his sublimely-taken winner caused the shock of the round at Tolka Park.
And it was no more than the Intermediate Cup holders deserved as they outplayed Shelbourne, just as they had in last week’s drawn game.
The goal came in the 76th minute of a thrilling match that contained chance after chance at both ends. Right back Gavin Kavanagh threaded an incisive ball through for the run of midfielder Cramer who drew Dean Delaney and slid the ball past him with his weaker right foot.
In truth, Crumlin should then have added to their winning margin. A ricochet put Stephen Larkin in on goal five minutes later with Delaney having to make a superb stop with his feet.
Within a minute, Anthony Kavanagh shaved the Shelbourne crossbar with a 20-yard volley.
As in the first match, Crumlin were well up for the challenge and could well have taken the lead much earlier. For Shelbourne, Anthony Flood was their chief goal threat, several times bringing saves from Gareth Sutton.
