JOCKEY Garrett Cotter (20) was taken to Lagan Valley Hospital yesterday with a suspected broken right leg after a crashing fall in an incident packed Bet With The Tote Maiden Hurdle at Down Royal.
Cotter's mount, L'Ami de Adam, came to grief at the final flight, bringing down Twentyfivequid, who was subsequently put down after breaking a leg. The race went to the Syl Kirktrained Clady Boy, who kept on from the last to initiate a double for Shane Broderick.
Francs' Flood's Fair Set, which finished eighth, injured his left hock and was also put dow and another rider to suffer in the opener was Kevin O'Brien who was stood down for two days after taking a nasty fall from favourite Noble Shoon at the second flight.
Following the contest, the stewards received a deputation of riders - Anthony Powell, Charlie Swan, John Shortt and Frank Woods - who complained that, the track was too narrow for 20 runner fields. The matter was referred to the Turf Club.
Broderick went on to complete his brace on the Kevin Woods trained Cairncross in the Thoroughbred Insurances Ltd Handicap Hurdle.
