Maura Connolly had the round of her life at Abbeyleix last week when she brought in an amazing 57 nett (88 gross) to win the medal competition by 10 shots from Catherine Bennett.

However, she was not alone in the low scoring stakes. Patricia O'Byrne had 51 points off a 34 handicap in the singles at Kilmashogue, which was one better than Andrea Ffrench, a 35 handicapper from Carlow who hit the magic 50 points in the Gough Memorial Trophy. Marie Mullan shot 47 points on the Old links at Ballyliffin.
