Leitrim player Colin Regan, who broke the nose of Roscommon's Francie Grehan in an off-the-ball incident on Sunday, issued a statement apologising for the incident late last night. It read:

"Regarding the incident in the match against Roscommon I want to state how sorry and embarrassed I am about my actions. No matter what is said or done on a football field there can be no excuses for what I did. I want to express my sincerest regret and apologise unconditionally, not only to Francie Grehan, but to everyone else involved.

"I feel I let down my team-mates, my management, and the great Leitrim supporters. I hope it has not marred what was a great day, as it has done for me personally. I want to emphasise that the incident was completely out of character, as anyone who knows me will testify. The only explanation I can give is that I was enraged at the time. It was the first, and last, such incident in my career."
