A 66th-minute goal from Kenny O'Rourke earned Cobh Ramblers a win over Kilkenny City at Buckley Park last night they scarcely deserved. The win puts them top of the First Division table with maximum points from two games.
O'Rourke pounced to drive home from 16 yards after a shot from Donal Golden rebounded off a Kilkenny defender. The loss was hard on Kilkenny who had dominated the game for long spells but had failed to find the target.
St Francis's maintained their good early season form when a last minute penalty from Gavin Doyle won them a point at home to promotion favourites Bray Wanderers.
Doyle scored from the spot after Stephen Fox had pulled down Joe Farrell. Bray had led from the 50th minute when Barry O'Connor scored.
In the Midlands derby at Strokestown Road, Longford Town beat Athlone Town thanks to a 16th-minute goal from Keith O'Connor. A cross from Stephen Gavin was misjudged by Athlone defender Alan Oliver and Robbie Coyle set up O'Connor to score.
A scrambled goal from Paddy Doyle gave Home Farm Fingal a third minute lead away to Monaghan United, but Monaghan struck back to win with a brace from Mick Scully.
Limerick FC substitute Derek McCarthy came on to score twice, the second an injury time winner, to inflict a second successive defeat on Dundalk at Hogan Park.
