Castleknock College overran Mount Temple in a one-sided encounter at Westmanstown, yesterday. Castleknock opened the scoring after just two minutes when fullback Ian Hopkins ran in from 30 metres to score under the posts. He converted his own try to make it 7-0.
Six minutes later, flanker Philip Guckian posted a penalty and Castleknock then got their second try, scored by Dermot Grimes, which Hopkins converted. On the half hour, Castleknock secured try number three thanks to hooker Mark Lynam-Loane. Guckian then added a penalty just on half-time.
Twenty minutes into the second half Mount Temple got their only score of the game, hooker Gavin Mercer peeling off a scrum and diving over.
Three minutes later Castleknock stormed back with two quick tries by Andrew Lynch, both converted by Guckian. Finally, with 10 minutes left they added two more tries from scrum-half Richard Geraghty and Grimes, converted by Mark Brennan and Guckian respectively.
