ALL-IRELAND SHC PRELIMINARY ROUND: Carlow 1-19 Laois 3-12:DENIS MURPHY'S injury-time point gave Carlow a dramatic victory at Dr Cullen Park on Saturday in an encounter contested with all the passion one associates with a local derby.

It was a case of third time lucky for Carlow as Niall Rigney’s side had prevailed over their neighbours in recent league and championship ties.

Carlow led 1-10 to 1-5 at half-time having looked the more composed side. But a give-away goal on 49 minutes, when Laois corner forward Eoin Costelloe pounced on a short Carlow puck-out, brought Laois back into the game.

When Tommy Fitzgerald scored his second goal on the hour mark the teams were deadlocked, 1-13 to 3-7. Willie Hyland pointed Laois ahead late on, but a brace of Carlow points from Craig Doyle and Denis Murphy sealed the win.
