Bray Wanderers put their relegation troubles to one side last night as they cruised into the quarter-finals of the FAI Cup at the Carlisle Grounds with a facile win over Cherry Orchard.

Pat Devlin's side showed little mercy in the previous round when trouncing St Francis 5-0 and non-league Cherry Orchard were given the same treatment.

Both sides were under-strength, but it was Cherry Orchard who suffered most as Bray totally dominated from the kick-off.

Stephen Fox and Steve Jones had early chances before a handling error by the Cherry Orchard goalkeeper, John Barnwell, gave Bray a 26th minute lead.

Barnwell fumbled an innocuous low drive from Fox to present Richie Parsons with a simple tap in from 10 yards.

The Cherry Orchard goal was bombarded until half-time with Bray goalkeeper, John Walsh, a mere spectator.

Parsons and Barry O'Connor found the range without the accuracy before Barnwell redeemed his earlier mistake by making excellent saves from both.

It was only a small respite for the Cherry Orchard goalkeeper as Bray extended their lead seconds before half-time when Barnwell failed to keep out O'Connor's tame header from another good cross by Stuart Connolly.

Another soft goal put the game beyond Cherry Orchard's reach four minutes into the second half. A quick free-kick by Jones found O'Connor who turned well to shoot past Barnwell from just inside the area.
