Two high-profile tennis bonanzas featuring prominent senior players will be held in Dublin next year.
The Point Theatre will host an event in February which will be part of the seniors ATP competitive circuit, which features John McEnroe and Bjorn Borg, while Fitzwilliam's corporate presentation on June 25th to 27th is billed as the "The Legends Tennis Classic", and follows the format of similar successful tournaments staged in London.
Former Grand Slam champions pencilled in to appear at Fitzwilliam are Borg, Henri Leconte, Ilie Nastase and Roscoe Tanner. Also set to appear are Ross Case, John Fitzgerald, Peter McNamara, Mansour Bahrami, Guillermo Vilas and Mikael Pernfors.
The Fitzwilliam brochure lists at a cost of £199 per person per day (ex VAT), a hospitality package which includes, "champagne reception, three-course silver service lunch and wines".
RTE television is understood to have signed up for over six hours of live coverage of The Point's event.
Meanwhile Yvonne Doyle has been relishing her $25,000 WTA circuit win in Hull last Sunday. The Castleknock player took the scalps of British players Lucie Ahl and Julie Pullin.
