Lisa Keigthly hit 113 at Lords on Tuesday thus becoming the first woman ever to score a century at Lords cricket ground. The Australian opener made her runs off 144 balls to wrap up a 5-0 win over England in the five one-day Test series.
The 25-year-old didn't know she had broken a record, probably because like many people she didn't realise that Lords has been one of the last bastions of the sort of male chauvinism you'd prefer to forget. Keightly's century is clearly more a reflection on Lords than the standard of women's cricket, coming as it did after successful litigation against the MCC for firing a female secretary because she dared to get pregnant.
Wonder what Geoff Boycott would have to say about that ?
