Spotted on Football 365: the players of Brighton's Crown Football Club asked referee Hamed Rissoni to hold a minute's silence before their Fairway Cup quarter-final last week because "a bird" they knew had died. Assuming they were referring to a much loved and sadly departed woman friend, Rissoni agreed and a mournful 60 seconds' hush fell over the ground as Rissoni, both teams and the spectators bowed their heads in respect. "When we held hands for the silence we were all struggling not to laugh," said player Phil Jarman. "There were a few sniggers but it just sounded as though we were crying." Who was the bird? Jarman's mother-inlaw's deceased budgie - Ruud Gullit.
Boys, eh?
