PATRIK BERUER maintained his remarkable scoring sequence last night as Liverpool clinched a place in the second round of the Cup Winners' Cup.

The 22 year old Czech Republic star scored his fifth goal in only three games and has quickly become a firm favourite with the Kop.

Berger opened the scoring after 17 minutes to put Liverpool firmly in the driving seat after their first leg victory in Finland two weeks ago.

Stan Collymore, replacing the injured Robbie Fowler, added a second in the 59th minute and John Barnes completed the scoring with 12 minutes to go.

However, Liverpool sewed the match up in the 78th minute thanks to a brilliant run from McManaman as he raced to the by line before playing the ball back to Barnes, who made no mistake.
