UEFA Cup Final: Porto might be the bookmakers' favourites to add the UEFA Cup to their 1987 European Cup triumph but history suggests it will be Celtic who achieve that feat today. The Parkhead side have achieved six successes from eight ties against Portuguese opposition.

1964-65 Fairs Cup

Leixoes 1 Celtic 1; Celtic 3 Leixoes 0

Celtic appeared to be up against it after Esteves scored for the home side after just six minutes of the first leg but the late Bobby Murdoch hit back. Steve Chalmers struck back in style scoring twice before Murdoch added a final goal in the second leg.

1969-70 European Cup

Celtic 3 Benfica 0; Benfica 3 Celtic 0

Tommy Gemmell took just two minutes to open the scoring in the first leg before Willie Wallace and Harry Hood looked to have given the Hoops a commanding lead over Eusebio and company. But the Portuguese giants struck back in the second leg to leave the result decided in Celtic's favour by the toss of a coin after extra-time.

1975-76 European Cup Winners' Cup

Boavista 0 Celtic 0; Celtic 3 Boavista 1

Peter Latchford saved a penalty with five minutes remaining in the first leg in Portugal to keep Celtic in the tie. But an early Kenny Dalglish strike settled the Hoops' nerves before Johannes Edvaldsson and Dixie Deans secured their passage into the last eight.

1983-84 UEFA Cup

S Lisbon 2 Celtic 0; Celtic 5 S Lisbon 0

One of the most memorable European nights in Celtic's history saw the club overhaul a two-goal deficit from the first leg. Tommy Burns, Tom McAdam, Brian McClair, Murdo MacLeod and Frank McGarvey all scored for the Hoops as they sent Sporting packing at Parkhead.

1993-94 UEFA Cup

Celtic 1 S Lisbon 0; S Lisbon 2 Celtic 0

Former England manager Bobby Robson guided the first Portuguese club to victory as his Sporting Lisbon side earned revenge for the defeat 10 years previously. Gerry Creaney scored the only goal of the first leg but a soon-to-be Hoops idol, Jorge Cadete, struck twice in the Estadio Jose Alvalade.

1998-99 UEFA Cup

Guimaraes 1 Celtic 2; Celtic 2 Guimaraes 1

After seeing their Champions League hopes dashed by Croatia Zagreb, Celtic comfortably came through this first-round tie. Henrik Larsson and Simon Donnelly scored in Portugal before Alan Stubbs and the Swedish hitman struck in the second leg at Parkhead.

2001-02 Champions League group stage

Celtic 1 Porto 0; Porto 3 Celtic 0

Larsson scored the only goal of the game as Parkhead welcomed its first ever Champions League group stage match. But, in the return game, Porto struck three times against an out-of-sorts Celtic.

2002-03 UEFA Cup semi-final

Celtic 1 Boavista 1; Boavista 0 Celtic 1

Henrik Larsson cancelled out a Joos Valgaeren own goal just a minute after Boavista had gratefully accepted the gift from the Belgian defender. But the Swedish striker was guilty of squandering a first-leg lead when he missed a crucial penalty. But Larsson made amends for his spot-kick agony at Parkhead when he took advantage of a wayward clearance 12 minutes from time to earn the Hoops their first European final place since 1970.
