CANOEING:There will be strong Irish interest in the performance of Andrzej Jezierski at the second Canoe Sprint World Cup in Duisburg in Germany this weekend. The Cork-based competitor, who amassed five World Championship medals with his native Poland, qualified Ireland for the C1 200 metres two weeks ago in Poznan. A tired Jezierski competed in the World Cup which followed and finished 14th. His first action in Duisburg is in the heats today.

In yesterday’s action, Barry Watkins had a successful day. In the K1 500 metres he won his heat and was third in his semi-final to qualify for the A Final of this event. He also finished fifth in the K1 1,000 metres semi-final and made the B Final. Jenny Egan qualified for semi-finals of the K1 500 metres, where she finished eighth.
