Madam, - I refer to suggestions from your columnist Fintan O'Toole (Opinion, February 21st) and Dane Tyghe (Letters, February 24th) that my murdered husband's memory is best served by allowing him to rest in peace. Not if that means compromising the principles he sacrificed his life for, and undermining the institutions of the democratic Republic he died defending.

As long as Sinn Féin/IRA continues to seek the release of the men involved in killing Jerry, I will continue to resist them.

As long as Sinn Féin/IRA refuses to condemn the murder, I will bear public witness against that refusal.

As long as Sinn Féin/IRA TDs like Martin Ferris continue to claim that the shooting in Adare was "accidental" and "unintentional", I will continue to remind the public that my husband was shot several times at point-blank range.

Finally, as long as there are men still being sought by the Garda Síochána for my husband's murder who continue to be aided and abetted by Sinn Féin/IRA, I will not stay silent about those who seek power in this State and who continue to harbour fugitives.

According to Martin Ferris's daughter Toiréasa, my husband Jerry was murdered by men out "fundraising" for the Republican movement. As long as those who sent out those men on their murderous operation that morning in Adare continue to distort the facts, I see it as my duty to my husband and the public he served to challenge Provo lies and uphold the truth. - Yours, etc,

ANN McCABE, Greystones, Limerick.
