Walking the green talk

Sir, – A piece in your Climate Crisis Special magazine (Saturday, October 23rd) encouraged us to buy recycled “Eco Fire and Heat logs”. And, on the grounds that they are a recycled end-product, we can “park the fact they’re shipped from South Africa”.

No we can’t. This sort of irresponsible greenwashing is responsible for the climate crisis in the first place. Many eco logs of different types are made in Ireland and none should be shipped from anywhere else to us. – Yours, etc,

Sir, – Your Climate Crisis Special (Magazine, October 23rd) purports to explain “Why this might be our last chance to save the planet”.

What it should say is “our last chance to save a semblance of our modern western way of life”. Species come and go, and humans are unlikely to be an exception. With or without humans, and with or without climate change, the planet will survive for many aeons to come.
