United Ireland and economics

Sir, – Dr Adam S Posen, an economist, states that Northern Ireland becomes much more attractive with access to the EU and does better than most of the UK. He concludes that this could lead to a united Ireland in five to 10 years! He fails to understand that there can only be a united Ireland if the people of Northern Ireland vote in favour of such an event (as per the Belfast Agreement) or if the UK expels Northern Ireland from the UK! Neither of these two are likely. I am sure Dr Posen’s opinion was music to the ears of United Irelanders within the British-Irish Chamber of Commerce but why does it promote such political nonsense? – Yours, etc,

LORD KILCLOONEY,

Mullinure,

Co Armagh.
