Trees in cities

Sir, – Declan Doyle (June 15th) writes that trees seriously diminish one of Dublin's great vistas, College Green. Trees have also, over recent decades, fully obscured another of Dublin's great views, that of Killiney Bay from the greater part of the Green Walk on the southeastern slope of Dalkey Hill.

A similar slow but apparently inexorable process is beginning to have a noticeable affect on the view from the Vico Road.

Trees are wonderful but, left to themselves, will over a relatively short period of time alter the landscape in ways we may not wish. – Yours, etc,
