Sir, – Alan Keegan (May 27th) bemoans the opposition that the government has encountered from the food industry in tackling obesity. This may well be the case but the particular policies he mentions, calorie labelling on menus and “traffic light” warnings on food packaging have, for the most part, been found to be ineffective at reducing calories consumption – even if they improve consumers’ knowledge of nutrition. – Yours, etc,
