Madam, - I have read many letters recently defending the right to life of human embryos which are used for stem cell research. On the whole these are well thought-out clearly principled views. However, they become cold and heartless arguments when faced with a terminally ill 12 year old who may benefit from the research.
Embryos don't fear death or suffer disabilities. This research must and will be explored - and if resulting treatments become part of mainstream medicine, does anyone believe Ireland should never use it? - Yours, etc,
CIARÁN FARRELL, Bray, Co Wicklow.
