Sir, - In her letter of January 11th, Lucilita Bhreatnach states that on August 31st, 1994 Sinn Fein delivered the political space for dialogue and negotiations
Could this be a Freudian slip?
As we all know, on August 31st, 1994 a "complete cessation of violence" was "delivered" by the IRA, but as Ms Bhreatnach's colleagues have repeatedly insisted, these are entirely separate organisations.
Ms Bhreatnach's eagerness to claim credit for this "delivery suggests that the link between Sinn Fein and IRA is elastic, dependent upon whether the"delivery" is beneficial or fatal.
The letter also refers to "every initiative by Sinn Fein" to which Mr Major did not respond (as she would have wished). Does she mean the Canary Wharf initiative or perhaps the Lisburn Barracks initiative, or were they "delivered" by a separate organisation? - Yours, etc.,
Williamstown, Rathvilly, Co Carlow.
