Madam, - Vincent Browne (June 1st) makes the valid point that the media should be the mechanism by which the Government, its institutions and especially the police are held accountable to the public. He believes the media have become far too complacent in this role, particularly in the case of the shootings at Lusk post office. He raises the question of why two men were shot when only one was armed.
I wonder how long it took Mr Browne and other critics of the Garda to make this observation. Perhaps five minutes, 10 minutes? However long it was, it was much more time than the gardaí at Lusk had. - Yours, etc,
