Sir, - I would like to support Mairead Ryan (February 3rd) in her objections to the displaying of pornographic magazines in newsagents. She is concerned particularly with the exposure of schoolchildren to such material.
It appears that "nobody objects" to questionable "literature". My informant? A local store proprietor. When I politely requested that unsuitable "men's" magazines be moved to a higher shelf, I was met with a hostile refusal. This was "impossible", I was told.
My sons enjoy car magazines (not of the risque kind); hence my reasonable request. Happily, we have discovered a shop where a policy of discretion is exercised. Some magazines are simply not carried.
