Playing charades with the judiciary

Sir, – As an acknowledged expert on “vanity projects” it was no surprise that former minister for justice, Alan Shatter was able to spot that the Judicial Appointments Bill put forward by Minister for Transport Shane Ross was a “bizarre vanity project”. “Ross’s judges Bill is worst legislation in 30 years”, Home News, June 25th). It also came as no surprise that Mr Shatter was extremely knowledgable about charades. Apparently, according to Mr Shatter, Mr Ross has been playing charades with the judiciary and to my horror, he has been playing the game “in an inappropriate manner”. No doubt the lawyers are anticipating another constitutional crisis. – Yours, etc,
