Madam, - I would like to object to the photograph on page 1 of today's issue (Dec. 11th). I consider it is in very bad taste and demeaning to the dignity of the lady concerned.
I was shocked and appalled that you would publish this photograph. I wonder if you considered the distress it could cause to her or to her relatives? - Yours, etc.,
MARGARET DUNNE, Southgreen, Kildare, Co Kildare.
Madam, - I think the photograph published on the front page of The Irish Times today (Dec. 11th) is grotesque and inappropriate. Whether photographed dead or alive, maimed or otherwise, victims of violence are persons and have a right to be treated as such, in death as in life.
The Irish Times does an excellent job of informing and involving its readership; you do not need the kind of photograph you published today. - Yours etc.,
Dr ORLA HALPENNY, Queen's Park, Monkstown, Co Dublin.
Yes, the photograph of the bomb victim in Talbot Street was distressing. It was published to demonstrate to a new generation the extent, nature and brutal horror of the Dublin bombings in 1974.
