Madam, Drapier (Opinion, March 5th) refers to the reimbursement of those illegally charged by our nursing homes as part of the "compensation culture". This lie needs to be nipped in the bud before it blossoms. Nobody is being compensated here. They are being repaid their misappropriated money, a very different thing altogether.
The four compensation disasters mentioned by Drapier - Army deafness, Hepatitis C, organ retention and residential abuse, all have this in common with the nursing home scandal: each was caused by the stupidity and negligence of successive governments.
Perhaps the electorate deserves some compensation for that. - Yours, etc.,
