Sir, - The absence of any Irish institution, as reported by Robert O'Byrne (May 22nd), at the sale of nine stained glass panels by Harry Clarke at Christies in London for £331,500 underlines the neglect of the medium by the art establishment in Ireland. In recent years there have been few items of stained glass on view at the annual exhibitions of the RHA, largely due to the lack of adequate viewing facilities at the gallery in Ely Place.

It is time the RHA recognised and encouraged the talented artists working with glass by setting up a proper viewing section in the gallery. The academy might also endeavour to arrange an exhibition of Clarke's work before it all leaves the country. - Yours, etc., Mount Merrion, Co Dublin.
