Sir, – In response to Raymond Kernan’s letter (July 29th) I must say that I feel somewhat heartened at the quality of our education system, at least as it functions in Castleblaney, Co Monaghan.
Not only is the town filled with gentle and sensitive souls, easily scarred by the depiction of nature in all its brutal reality – but to have so many young children regularly reading the paper of record is both astonishing and uplifting in equal measure. Of course, it might be something in the stony grey soil ... Yours, etc,
