Marlay Park noise pollution

Sir, – I am typing this letter in Ballyboden, over one mile from Marlay Park in suburban south Dublin while a concert plays, and I can clearly hear the music over my TV and with all my windows closed.

Given my distance from Marlay Park and using the formula for the area of a circle, I estimate that every household in a 5 sq mile area can hear the music over their TVs also.

Why are concerts being held in such a residential part of Dublin when there is a huge number of more appropriate venues?

Even Croke Park and the Aviva Stadium have natural “sound walls” that limit the sound spillage to their surrounding areas, while the Phoenix Park is more expansive and surrounded by less homes.

I am no prude and indeed I am a musician but when concerts are run in a suburban setting and disturb every household in a vast area, surely there is something wrong with the chosen venue? – Yours, etc,
