Madam, - I agree with the Lord Mayor of Dublin, Mr Royston Brady (July 26th), where he pointed out the importance of funding for playgrounds and safer streets.

I am confused, however, as to why he would prefer the gardaí to be dealing with "bigger issues" than the trafficking of women for the sex trade.

I am inclined to trust the gardaí in their watchful eye on the lap-dancing clubs.

I think this is a very big issue and the acceptance of it as unimportant is its most worrying enemy.

How can we expect even hope for a different mindset regarding women and sex if role models in responsible positions, like Mr Brady, can't see that abuse of women doesn't have a stop sign at lap-dancing clubs, just because they are legally legitimate?

And why does the fact that he has socialised in lap-dancing clubs give him the inside story over the gardaí?

I wish the Lord Mayor would elaborate. - Yours etc.,
