Keynes and national self-sufficiency

Sir,  –  Prof Helen O'Neill's letter (April 24th) on Keynes's lecture at UCD in 1933 was most interesting. She discusses the differences between the versions of that lecture published soon afterwards (June 1933) in both Studies , (the Jesuit journal), in Dublin, and the Yale Review , where a different emphasis was apparent, one less favourable to de Valera's economic policy.

Has Prof O’Neill considered that the differences might be down to a Jesuit editor, with an eye to keeping “onside” with the new government in Dublin, famously including Christian Brothers boys rather than old Clongownians?    Very Jesuitical that, and, in my view, probably the explanation! – Yours, etc,
