Sir, - I have just returned from a short stay in Cuba.

Despite obvious difficulties, Cubans enjoy free education and healthcare with no waiting lists. Although we are a democracy, with a good economy, we have to tolerate overcrowded classrooms and patients in corridors.

Why? The answer is that, despite endless promises, health and education are not a priority with our Government.

If the Government is serious about health and education, it needs to prioritise. Otherwise we will continue to have a country with a two-tiered healthcare system and a demoralised teaching force. - Yours, etc.,
